Giving two stars for many many reasons.. Halles voice was surprisingly good and similar to the original sound of Ariel’s song but her acting was… well not the best. Halle had a youthful appearance and voice which was great but because of the bad acting there was no chemistry with her and Eric which was disappointing :( Also they changed so many elements of the original film that made the original so special ! No daughters song?? Different names and they don’t look related at all? And scuttle (my FAV character out of the movie) is a female ?! His quirky silly voice was perfect and the “yasss queen” act is getting annoying and overdone with Disney lately. Please guys stop forcing the stupid dialogue that we all find cringey. However, I was surprised how many hated the flounder and Sebastian appearances? I found them realistic and somewhat cute actually just the voice acting was weird to say the least. Sebastian’s voice was so bad I couldn’t even listen to it. Unsure why they changed the characters so much like the daughters of triton, Eric’s parents, scuttle, etc. I feel as though the role choices were not the best. Really thought Queen Latifah would be Ursula as Melissa was decent but not the best selection for me. Vanessa was okkk but still just felt like each actor was missing something! Also for a 2023 movie the CGI was meh. Came off as awkward in some scenes how the characters moved and interacted like the fluidity wasn’t there. And some parts made no sense like scuttle being underwater… come on guys do better. Ultimately I felt as though this movie was very rushed and not well thought out with actor selection. The roles felt forced but I still found some scenes enjoyable like the Under the Sea and some of the fish dancing scenes. Also… after beauty and the beast live action all of these new ones have just been such a letdown. Really upsetting considering this is my favorite Disney Princess movie ever next to princess and the frog. I think Halle would be great as tiana too for live action if her acting would improve! This movie was not worth the money to see but still glad I did to gauge the actual performance and filter out the bias and racism from some reviews. A couple of my friends thoroughly enjoyed the movie so feel free to watch when it releases on Disney Plus 👍🏼
