Barring the horrible events of the Holocaust, it was a good movie. Striking in its perversion of the human spirit. I wanted to hate the doctor but couldn't. How can I say I wouldn't have done the same? I wanted to hate the Obersturmfuher he was also forced into a position he probably did not ask for and any resistance would have cost his life. That's not saying I was sympathetic, just that it is disturbingly understandable. Oscar nod to Harvey Kietel who carried the movie from start to finish. Reading other's reviews about certain behaviors is sad. I don't know how Jews acted during this event. But I know they were scared, traumatized, annihilated, and killed and that was usually the first 30 minutes of getting to the camps. I had hope briefly at the end of the movie but then...
I believe this should be shown in schools...lest we forget.
