I personally thought this film was a bit of a mix. There were a lot of the legends and myths from DC’s Atlantis in this flick, which held it back a bit, because I wanted to see more of Momoa’s Aquaman. The cast, however, all put in solid performances and the film benefits from it.
There’s an odd blend of the film, and especially Aquaman, not taking itself seriously and then giving itself far too much weight. However, whilst I’d say I’m generally a bit tired of superhero films’ titular heroes always having to save the entire world, I thought that the film carried it off relatively well.
Aquaman was, overall, was a 6.5 out of 10 for me, I was able to suspend my disbelief and, had there been a little less epic and a little more action, it would have been a pretty great film. What it does manage, however, is to be one of the best DC films of recent years, and could (fingers crossed!) bring them back from this deep hole they’ve unfortunately dug themselves.
Worth a watch.
