It's good to waste some time, and if you are like myself, and you love history, you KNOW history, and realize how these real life people just kind of stumbled into a world previously unknown by anyone from the Eastern hemisphere, whether European or African or Asian, and the altering of the ideas that were current of the age, THEN you will enjoy this movie, but if you want a movie that is going to fully explain why this was so important, not just for the life goals of the central character, but for the science that tells the story of mankind over the whole of earth, you will be sorely disappointed.
Unfortunately, the people that will enjoy this movie for what it is do not usually have people in their lives that they could discuss, with the awe due this type of discovery, especially considering it was a little over 100 years ago, to be enjoyed fully. There are many questions about other characters in the story never really broached. Mr. Colston, who seemed a drunkard when first met, but had the wisdom and guile that comes only from learning to keep mouth shut and ears open. What was it the inspired so much loyalty from him? There are many moments that people of a lesser fortitude would have mutinied amd turned back, leaving Percy's remains to the piranha and the cannibals, but Mr. Colston followed Percy into the wilds of uncharted south America multiple times of his own volition.
