As with nearly every biopic, there’s a great performance at the center of a not particularly great film. Same with this one. Proceed with caution. Or save the $17.50 and wait until it’s on cable in a few weeks.

It’s a sitcom formula that seems dated now. Leaves no mystery as to why the three networks’ entertainment divisions seem like a thing of the past and left to eat dust in the wake of Netflix and cable channels. Furthermore, two competent actors find themselves in inferior material compared to their earlier work in vastly superior shows: “Masters of Sex” (Ashford) and “Silicon Valley” (Middledirch).
