I’ve listened to 5% of the audiobook, and I can’t go on. The different voices are so overdone that I’m perpetually cringing. And the story itself doesn’t impress. For example, the officials examine the princess to see if she has developed any magical powers, as is customary in her line. Everyone agrees she hasn’t, and they bemoan this fact. Then the princess tells them she can talk to her horse and it answers. They patronize her and dismiss this as a childish fantasy. I can’t go with one star, because of my very limited sample.

I’m only about a third of the way in, but I find myself feeling pleased every time vampires, uh, Ina, are killed. Apparently I’m a horrible speciesist.

Just another young female heroine who is a great fighter, is very bad at sewing and wants no children. Hasn’t the ‘not like other girls’ been beaten to death?
