Horacio Mancilla (Nivel20)

The beginning was compelling and intriguing: The dead teenager watching her grieving family and killer from heaven, the interactions of the characters dealing with a life without her, the separation of her parents and 200 pages later… an absurd tale where the dead girl possesses a friend’s body just to make love with her crush on Earth. The simplistic family reunion and the ludicrous and unbelievable end of the killer. I cannot say it’s a bad novel: the narrator’s voice, the characters psychology, the ideas about human connection are well written and this novel soars in many ways. Unfortunately it falls abruptly in the conclusion. Perhaps it was too hard for a first time novelist dealing with so much emotional complexity, to be able to land safely.

Este thriller es tan inverosímil que provoca risa: un ex convicto que planea venganza por un crimen que no cometió sale de una prisión “mexicana” convertido en hacker. Los dialogos son acartonados, irreales. Las actuaciones tienen ese dejo a telenovela que la mayoría de los directores mexicanos no pueden superar, pero sobre todo plantea esa visión de clase media mexicana blanca, donde la gente morena parece haber sido eliminada de la faz de la tierra. Todas las carencias pretenden ser sustituidas por un ritmo narrativo vertiginoso y efectista. Y lo peor de todo: es el programa de una lengua diferente al inglés más visto en Netflix. Muchos piensan que es español. Yo pienso que es una pérdida de tiempo.
