They got away from the essence of this series. They tried too hard to integrate modern day gaming into it which was a huge mistake. First iff, the FF series has always been bad at the “action” portion of their games. Chocobo races in a couple, bike riding etc… always very sloppy and a pain to master (and by master, i mean get really lucky in most cases) what was most enjoyable about the older games is… 1. Exploration. 16 really has no exploring involved. Its pretty cut and clear with a few underwhelming side quests. Hunts are ok but get boring as well. 2. Strategy. I loved this series because it involved using your head with puzzles and combat was turn based as opposed to annoying button mashing action. Action games should not be rpgs and vice versa imo. 3. Cut scenes were underwhelming and long winded. I know everyone loves cut scenes, as do i, but there were too many and they werent rewarding or impressive. 4. Spells. Firaga, Holy, Meteor! What happened? I miss this element. 5. Story. While the story was interesting, there was little surprise to the the main antagonist (boring, and unlike FF) also most of the main story was clearly lame filler stuff. 6. Party. The worst thing about this game is the fact that it is basically a solo mission game. The dynamic of having other party member you control and and try to utilize the in harmony is gone. Tbh it got lost a little in 7remake and 15, but erradicated in 16. Bros… the biggest appeal of this series was exactly that! From the very first FF where you get to playvthey with a party of your choice was fantastic! Or FF7 were your party splits into fiff groups at points etc… The game let me down and may be the last one I ourchase in the series. I dont even want to do rebirth if this is the direction this game is going. I ga e it 2 stars because the graphics and music were amazing, bit the rest was absolute trash. Advice: Perhaps branch off another series that is back to turn base old school FF (FF 7,8,9,10, 12) keep the crapping new version, but give the OG fans what they want. And ive read that new game engine blah blah blah is the reason for the change. I call bs because Persona 5 is one of the best modern day games out there and you guys are capable of doing that in the FF world.
