If I could give this zero stars, I would. This movie Made me lose interest right away, characters aren’t even fleshed out, made me feel like I was watching those Halloween special movies with a low budget (the effects weren’t bad, it’s just what they chose to use as a scare tactic as well as the quality of the writing). Made me wonder how on earth this screenplay got approved.
Annabelle Wallis (the actress for Madison) delivered a lacking performance, I wasn’t convinced that she was her character, her performance didn’t feel realistic, in fact this entire film didn’t feel realistic. I wasn’t scared at all, it seems that the writer relied on jump scares, overused situations, and a “scary” villain with a “scary” voice. Seriously. A horrible film that you’d end up wasting time for. Maddy Hasson, the actress for Madison’s sister isn’t convincing as well, she didn’t truly feel like a woman who is concerned for the wellbeing of her sister.
Gabriel is like those cheap scare animatronics you could buy online, the kind that you wouldn’t even be spooked by even for a second, he’s a dollar store ghost face. Don’t get me started on the useless side story between the detective and that extremely forgettable character, there’s not even an ounce of chemistry I could sniff out— or McKenna graces performance as young maddy, though I will spare her a bit of what I have to say since her poor performance is partial to the writer and director (it was so direct that it was funny).
I understand that this film was going for a seventies/eighties approach however I’d say that it was poorly executed, I’ve seen films with this kind of vibe but they were much better than malignant.
Just found out that the writer also wrote the conjuring movies, what the hell.
