I only gave this movie two stars because of the acting and visual effects. If not for that, I wouldn’t have given it a star. The good reviews I’ve read online about this movie must be from individuals who have never read Frank Herbert’s Dune. I’m just presuming. Lets look at this from my point of view. To me Dune is one of the greatest Sci-fi adventure books ever written. I have read all of the dune books many times. It was a perfect story. Dune part 1,(the movie) was ok, though it didn’t follow the book closely I overlooked that because Dune has been done now, counting this version, three times, so maybe a “little” deviation from the book was warranted. That being stated, Dune part 2 sucked! Here are my reasons: There is no mention of the Spacing Guild (one of the main reasons spice is so valuable), no mention of the Landsraad or CHOAM and no mention of the symbiotic relationship between the sand trout and the giant worms. In addition, in this version of Dune, Paul was going to destroy spice with nuclear weapons which would not have destroyed spice production but just slowed it down. This is a major and integral part of the story. To control the spacing guild, Paul would have to have the ability to destroy “all” spice production forever and the only way to do that would be to nuke all the worms and all the pre-spice masses,,,not enough nukes. In the book Paul was going to use the transformed water of life and flood a huge pre-spice mass which would then create a chain reaction that would destroy all spice production on the planet..a big point, don’t yah think? There are so many other things I could point out. I just wish these directors making movies from books would follow the books more closely. The only rendition of Dune that did was the Sci-fi channel mini-series. Anyway, later alligators!
