Really struggled with this film. Although I've been known to argue in defense of old movies being of the times and not to take the female stereotypes too seriously, I found the toxicity of the relationship between the leads to be extreme, even for that era (1947). Difficult to believe a beautiful, successful woman would put up with the constant verbal abuse, philandering, and whining of her not-that-attractive drunkard husband for that long. His character made it a challenge to keep watching at times, not to mention her increasingly annoying devotion to a dismissive loser (at best). Would have appreciated a less dysfunctional approach to the same clever concept.
To give you an idea, at one point the husband says, "Darling you're only a woman, you're not expected to have either judgment or intelligence."
