I you were interested in watching this film as you enjoy the eloquent verbal sparring within the Jane Austen books forget it. This film is not a re-make of the novels, as such it dumbs down the dialogue to it base levels of context, and pretty’s it up with scenery and costumes. It presents the main character as sad, booze loving, who despises elements of her family, and the audience doesn’t have to intellectually work out the issues from the dialogue, as the script has the actress breaking the fourth wall to camera. This as such, really impacted on the main actors to comes across as really love torn or being connected, the introduction of some aspects thrown in where pointless, making disjointed links. This is a film who is trying to connected to an specific audience who don’t want to sit through something that makes then think, or even go and to read the book, it lessens a Jane Austen’s story to its bare bones and that is sad state of affairs when you think the effort she made being a women in a man’s society.
