Ok so I'm not really one for anime but this adaptation blew my mind. I've always tried to get into "One Piece" but hearing about it's 1000 EPISODES has always made me afraid to get past the first season. Now before I get to the good stuff I will focus on the faults, the first one being the sea monster. The monster shown in Luffy's flashback is very obviously 3d rendered and it's conflicting roars range from the Jurassic Park T-Rex to Palkia's cry in the Pokemon show. Now I'm not saying the monster is bad, I for one enjoyed it's obviously fake model and sounds. That's really all the negative things I can think about. The positives now. The diverse cast really brings character to these already complex narratives. For example, Zoro's actor and how he's portrayed made him my new favorite character in this outstanding show. Luffy is the same cheerful, naïve, deceptively genius pirate and I really enjoyed his outbursts and deep emotional scenes. Nami is just wonderful, I never thought I would like her but this live action adaptation makes her one of the most interesting people. Sanji may not be in the series long, but he sure does make his mark in the few scenes he's in. Garp is incredible, Koby is so much more emotional, and Buggy is such an amazing casting. The show itself is nothing like I've ever seen. I highly recommend watching if you're new to the anime, I diehard og, or just a casual fan. I could not be more impressed with Netflix and it's glorious "One Piece" adaptation, can't wait for a season 2.
