I think this Is King's attempt at legitimacy. Thousands of words dedicated to largely uninteresting characters - his "War and Peace," if you will. I can't even listen to it without drifting off. His first five books are masterpieces, and some that came afterwards qualify - but the madness of adding more to an already bloated behemoth - madness. His best work allows the discovery of the characters over the course of the book - not overly long chapters. The Shining comes to mind, and Salem's Lot. This was my second try and my last. I'm putting this one in the book cemetery, never to be revived.
