I’ve known about this album for a year now but I’m only now writing a review since I got it on vinyl.
First thing you want to do when you get in to this. Don’t go in expecting this is a pop or regular hip-hop album. It’s completely the opposite of many peoples expectation as it’s industrial/experimental hip-hop.
First track:
The album starts with the track called “get got” where rapper/songwriter ‘mc ride’ (Stefan Corbin Burnett) which draws the listener in with the fast and unexpected hook ‘get get get get got got got got’ which later leads in to ‘blood rush to my head lit hot lock’ continuing to the chorus.
Favourite track:
Punk weight. This song starts off with a sample called ‘hwa heda’ by Cheb Wasila that after a certain amount of time is pitched down and right after the proper song starts.
Last track:
The ending to the album is Hacker which also has a very catchy hook ‘I’m in your area, I’m in, your area, I’m in your area, I’m in, I know the first three numbers’ that’s will be very memorable for the listener.
Overall review and rating:
Although this track might not be everyone’s cup of tea (even after a couple of listens), it’s incredibly alluring. Like I have stated, the hooks of these songs is what makes the memorable and catchy.
All in all, the songs have dark, grimy lyrics which incorporate themes like drugs, murder, torture, and killing police. The dark lyrics of the songs go with the calamitous yelling of mc ride, intense and very skilled drums of Zachary Charles Hill, and the instrumentals of Andrew Morin.
This is the only album I’ve ever heard that sounds like an audio version of the album cover (credits to Sua Yoo)
Before giving your opinion, please listen at least 10 time (as I hated it the first couple times I listened)
My final rating is 10/10
