What I loved about this show was the heartless female protagonist. Sociopaths in media are far too often portrayed by men, and the first few episodes were gloriously cold. Until episode five or six, that is, when Nurse Ratched starts unpacking her childhood trauma and crying all the time.
Now I'm all for psychotherapy and healing, but that's really not how this show was billed. And it's hardly believable that, after unpacking and healing from said trauma, Nurse Ratched goes on to be the nurse we know from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
On another note, I appreciate all the added period dynamics of queer relationships and race. And the show is quite aesthetically beautiful.
