I'm Black (or like the showrunners like to say, "a person of color") mixed with Mexican, and while many of you may ask "why does that matter", when it comes to a review of Rings Of Power, I'll explain in detail exactly why it does.
I grew up in Lakewood, CA and was a huge LOTR fan when I was a kid! The first time I saw The Fellowship, I was immediately hooked and engaged! After seeing all three, they soon became my favorite trilogy ever! In my younger days, I related to Legolas, as I always thought he was cool and elves were awesome.
As a 29 year old now, I find Sam to be the best character ever and I relate with him the most because of the goodness he carried in his heart.
With that said, the showrunners and cast are sitting there telling me, that I shouldn't be able to like, or relate to these old films, because there are no other blacks in them. This is completely racist and shallow of them to think that black people don't have the mental ability to relate to others outside of our own race. It's completely ridiculous and disgusting.
There were plenty of characters from the East. That are minorities, that the show runners could have built off of, instead of what they chose to do.
By disrespecting Lore, Tolkien, and the fan base, they already were off to a bad start.
BUT after actually watching it, I can confirm my doubts! This was absolutely horrible and sad to see. Galadriel is completely out of character and the acting is bad on her end.
Gandalf shouldn't be in this AT ALL. There should be No Hobbits in this. Where is Galadriel's husband? Why is every male character so close minded and why are the elves so controlling over Galadriel? Makes no sense.
I could go on and on. Gave it a shot, and I refuse to support any further episodes since they can't simply adapt one of the BEST SELLING books of all time, and respect the lore.
