"Adipurush": A Disappointing Desecration of the Epic
"Adipurush" had the potential to bring the revered story of the Ramayana to life on the silver screen. Unfortunately, it turns out to be an absolute disgrace, failing to honor the essence of the epic. From the flawed script to the disappointing production design, this film falls far short of capturing the grandeur and depth of the original tale.
Story:
The creators of "Adipurush" have chosen to focus only on the Seeta kidnapping and the war with Ravana, completely disregarding the richness and nuance of the Ramayana. The inclusion of a heart-wrenching scene where Seeta gets killed( deception though, was not real) that is truly disheartening. Such a deviation from the original story was unnecessary and deeply upsetting, ultimately betraying the essence of the epic.
Such misguided choices demonstrate a lack of understanding and respect for the source material.
Script/Dialogues:
Despite being a fan of Manoj Muntashir, his work in "Adipurush" is a major letdown. The language used throughout the movie is nothing short of disappointing, resembling a low-class street slang rather than the poetic dialogue one would expect. It fails to capture the eloquence and depth of the original Ramayana, further contributing to the overall degradation of the film.
Production Design:
Adipurush's production design fails to impress on multiple levels. Prabhas' appearance lacks the impact one would expect for the portrayal of Lord Rama, and Seeta's costume crosses the line of modesty, diminishing the integrity of her character. Furthermore, the depiction of Ravana is an absolute letdown. A figure worshipped by many, Ravana deserved better than the pathetic representation offered in this film, failing to showcase his intelligence and his deep devotion to Lord Shiva.
Cinematography:
The overall visual presentation in "Adipurush" is dismal. The dark and uninspired cinematography leaves much to be desired. It fails to capture the magnificence of the landscapes, the grandeur of the battles, and the emotional depth of the characters. The execution feels lackluster and poorly thought out, further contributing to the film's overall disappointment.
Cast Selection:
While the selection of actors for the roles of Rama, Seeta, Ravana, and Lakshmana may have been passable if constume and dialogues were rightly chosen, the same cannot be said for the rest of the cast. Other character choices appear misplaced, lacking the authenticity and conviction required to bring the epic to life. This further weakens the overall impact of the performances and undermines the film's potential.
Conclusion:
Adipurush is, without a doubt, a movie to avoid. The director and dialogue writer have done a disservice to the epic tale, resulting in an absolute mess of a film. From the ill-conceived story choices to the disappointing execution, this rendition fails to capture the essence and reverence associated with the Ramayana.
