Been a lifelong fan of The Libertines so they hold a special place in my heart anyway, but this album sees them truly hitting new heights even I never thought possible.
They have expanded their sound without losing that rawness, matured as musicians and lyricists (though let's face it, they were always great), and still find a way to speak to me, even now, ageing and seeing a nation around me changing and in decline, yet still fill me with hope and inspiration only great music can.
Whereas you can feel the bitterness and heartbreak in their second album, you absolutely feel the love in this one.
It is their best, most complete album, and while I'll be listening on repeat for some time yet, I cannot wait to see where this new direction takes the boys in the future.
