The film is enjoyable and compulsive viewing with a main character strong but brimming over with self-doubt so very relateable. The flashbacks the quality of singing are very 1960s and magnetic. All young characters all very humanly portrayed with personal tragedies. Great locations.

Absolutely gripping. Thread upon thread to consider.Beautiful photography often from above showing dry lands carved through with never- ending roads. Jay hardly speaks and when he does it's almost inaudible much of the time: Love the way the thugs swoop in and menace. I haven't divorced myself from it yet and am still in the film.

Full of dramatic techniques including mysterious skull-wearing characters, recognizable swearing and language, silences, black screens, and clashing and then droning music. Shona as Hartley is mesmerising. Sometimes it's like a drama class improvisation session where characters engage and react to each other spontaneously. That is ad-libbing and theatre. What a difference from the stilted costume dramas of late.
