Honestly, disappointing so far. Like watching someone try to tell another person's jokes, but improvising changes they think would be funnier on the spot.
I've only seen the first episode so far, but given Simon Allen's poor track record up to this point, I don't imagine further watching is going to recover this.
I could point out many issues I have, but I'd rather not devote more time being disappointed than is necessary, so I'll leave with this:
Imagine a show runner who is adapting an incredibly popular book series that has not seen an adaptation yet. The fans of this series would be easy fans and free marketing. Now imagine this show runner goes out of his way to insult those fans and break promises to them. That is level of thought and decision-making driving the writing and production of this show.
