I really disliked this book. 1) It felt like it was being dictated to me. All plot points were just told to me as the reader, I wasn't pulled through a story naturally. It's as if the author doesn't trust the reader to infer any sort of story or make their own judgement about any of the characters. 2) The end of almost every chapter was written like an obvious cliffhanger e.g. "Alicia needed help, and I was just the one to do it" or something dumb like that. 3) All of the Greek language and mythology references were clunky " Dr. Diomedes" "It's as hot as Athens in England today". Ugh. And in the end, the Euripides play that the author works so hard to JAM Alicia's plot line into doesn't even really make sense. 4) There are like 15 red herrings. From Yuri, to Max Berenson, to Paul the cousin. Snooze. 5) The BIG reveal at the end happens within the matter of a half a page. So this whole time we're lead to a twist that the author doesn't even really spend time unwinding. And then we have about 2 additional chapters until the end of the book. 6) AND THIS IS A BIG ONE. He sucks at writing from a woman's perspective. I was embarrassed reading Alicia's journal entries. This book was flabby. It was obviously written to be a movie that the author could cash in on. With all the typical contemporary "psychological thriller" and "mystery" easter eggs that get dropped in a current movie plot. I'm hoping this ends up on Lifetime so I don't have to see it advertised in theaters.
