After reading the reviews I dragged my husband to the cinema to see 1917 (he is no film buff but he likes war films) - I was expecting to see one of the best war movies ever - but I was left wanting more. It is a marvel of camera work, costumes etc and the two main actors are good, however, I didn't feel engaged with them and, therefore was left rather 'empty'. There were also lots of 'holes' in the very simple story - lots of flies on the horses - none on the bodies, why did none of the soldiers challenge him when he wandered into camp whilst they were listening to a soldier singing (who had a great voice), the milk in the bucket and a well fed cow ( why and how?) , completely dry photos from a tin box even though he had been under water and dragged through rapids and a waterfall plus several other inconsistencies - all of which left me feeling flat .
