I honestly enjoyed this movie for what it is. It's a Friday/Saturday night sci-fi popcorn movie that delivers with two likeable leads, great special effects, an original storyline and generally just fun to watch. I can't stand this new generation of keyboard warriors who hate the world and want to give negative reviews for everything. Look at some of the people reviewing and you will see their negative history about everything. This was a solid film and actually sometimes, I watch some of the Oscar nominated films and say....really? OK, it was good but not elevated to an Oscar nomination.. Its a really nice film that's definitely worth a watch on your own or with a family. 4/5

Despite a lot of critics of this film, I actually thought it was fine as a standalone. The 4th entry in the franchise was awful. This one however was ok.I think everyone's favourite was the 'Curse of the Black Pearl' due to it being fresh, new and introduced us to a new character in Jack Sparrow. However, after reading recently that they plan to 'reboot' the franchise, I start to worry. Who can fill Jonny Depp's shoes? It is a huge task. Do not use new and untested actors....go to a household name. Lets see Robert Downey Jnr leave one franchise and start up a new one

For me, Tom Hanks is a one in a million actor who can carry any story through his emotion and body language. The story in whole is about the notion of trust. The trust between man and dog and now the unnerving yet evident motion of man and artificial intelligence. Will we ever come to fully trust our own creation. The film itself is beautifully written and Hanks can hold his own character driven vehicle any day, no matter what the substance or genre. Also displayed in his previous work with 'Cast Away' where he was able to build a relationship with a non-human subject, and yet we all still felt emotionally attached. The film does not fall into the post-apocoliptic genre as most do but follows a dysfunctional group on their way to potential salvation. The character development along the way is fantastic and makes us feel more for their plight. I would recommend this movie to anyone as a breath of fresh air, thought provoking and intelligent. I would give it a five star rating any day and will definately re-watch it
