This show was amazing, the visuals, especially during Alex's depressive episode were amazing. I was horrified going through the low reviews where people were saying that Alex was 'written poorly' or 'written to be stupid', I'm assuming they don't realize the show is based on a memoir written by the actual 'alex'. Seeing these women who claim to be DV survivors put down a woman for her choices to remove herself and her child from the abusive presences in their lives is genuinely crazy to me.
This is not to say there aren't things I was frustrated with in the show, I was personally mad she didn't ask for more help from Regina or go no contact with her mom when she acted like a child for the millionth time, but the great thing about this show is that I UNDERSTOOD why the character made those decisions. Stephanie Land, the author of the book Maid was based on, never claimed she made the best decisions, but instead chose to share her story to bring light to the reality of DV victims.
