I am a huge Doom 3 fan. Chalk it up to being younger and in awe of Doom 3 when it came out. I loved the flashlight switching, the jump scares. I am an old school resident evil fan when it was survival horror. I love the controls. Maybe this would explain my point of view. I love all the modern Dooms now BUT there is a distinct change in tone for the new games. For new generations I guess. Doom 3 is more of a gritty atmosphere. The world building and the claustrophobic nature of the game makes it one of my favorite games of all time. I fell in love with the idea of being on a space station on mars. It was just so awesome. How long it takes to get to hell in the game is great. Just perfect pacing and opening. Doom 2016 comes along and I am already leery. I am like "where are all the jump scares?" This has become almost cartoony once you get over the initial upgraded gore. I was playing the demo and just gave up on the game, sad that they had changed the formula. I get the full game on sale and get into it with my initial practice in the demo. WOW, what a thrill ride. It is not the same as Doom 3. This may also have to do with me being older. I was so proud to beat the game. I realized there is still awesome lore with Samuel Hayden being a great character. I guess I am biased with my name being Sam. The concept of the sword with writing on it has been incorporated into my own mythology. Train to speak the word with the sword with writing coming out of your mouth to prevent hell on earth. Every word matters, you do not know the effect of your actions as you face your fears. Time to wake up to reality. Speak the word ESPECIALLy in the evil you witness in the workplace of a decadent, entitled, decaying democracy that does not know what to do with freedom. Become a citizen freely or be social religion in freely chosen hell cells as the false definition of man and woman. Jesus was an innocent kid, he was also the devil with his wisdom about fear. We must all face our many unregistered fears here in hell on earth. You will be back, reborn, chances are. Make the world a better place no matter whether you perceive results or not. This is honor. Do it for others as well as yourself and watch the secret rewards of the story of your life unfold. As I started Doom Eternal again after giving up on it last year....I say: I though Doom 2016 was fast paced......this is making me be a better gamer X3. This is not an easy game on normal. I am feeling it again to try again and got it plus ancient gods as a gift. This is addicting stuff and I have to find out what happens with Samuel Hayden.
