I went to see this movie for my birthday (it came out two days before) and I was SUPER excited because I had watched the original not too long before (a couple months) and I actually cried, like really hard (it was the end scene where guage's dad Killed him). Anyways, I left the movie theater... a little mad. For starters they made it the little girl who was possessed, which took away some of the effect that this poor sweet little kid has been turned into a terrible murderer, and they also had her spend like, a day or two with her dad as if everything was normal... I don't know why they thought that would be a good idea. They also added this weird thing where the girl was like "now you'll feel what i feel" and she killed her parents and buried them in the graveyard... So it turned into like... One big dead family, and somehow it just... Made it less scary. They ended in a cliffhanger where the family (yes, the dead one) walked up to the car where the NOT dead gauge was sitting... Idk it wasn't jarring or anything. OOOH ALSO ANOTHER THING! There was a whole thing in the book where the wendigo was mentioned... And i guess they thought it'd be cool to throw him in there, which yes it would be... IF YOU DID IT IN A NOT TERRIBLE WAY! I think they literally mentioned him once (or they didn't mention him at all I don't remember) and then they had the dad (forgot his name) see him in the forest, ONCE! it was a whole scary thing where they were like "oooh watch out!" Then he wasn't a threat, nor did he show up again. One thing that I guess was cool was the way they did the whole Zelda thing... They made those parts genuinely scary... And they also did a cool thing where they took some scenes from the original where there were jumpscares, and they didn't put a jumpscare in there so if you'd see the original you'd be all on edge, and then nothing would happen, there were some good jumpscares... But they don't make up for the rest of it... I rate it 2/10, the two is for the two things I liked about this 2 hour movie. I would recommend not seeing this movie and watching the original instead.
