The plot of missing children in the outback, is basically a rip off of Picnic at Hanging Rock. As in that film, the scenery becomes a character in the film, and is the only one of any merit in the case of Strangerland. The characters behave in ways that are totally unbelievable at times, and the whole film misses the mark and takes itself way too seriously.

The plot is almost nonexistent and the technique used to move to and from different timeframes is overly simplistic and annoying. None of the characters look old enough to be their supposed age in the ‘present’ part of the movie. Zendaya’s character is extremely easy to dislike, and I found the whole film pointless and depressing. I kept watching because I was on a plane and was waiting for something to happen, it didn’t.
