It could have only been “better” with a singing and dancing routine. Sorry to those that enjoyed it, but it just didn’t do it for me. Here were my personal issues with the movie in no particular order:
1. The plot was weak, and plot development was cringe-worthy. You get the info for what should be risk and purpose, but end up with deflated scenes, poorly-timed jokes (for the most part), and almost no “real” emotion from characters or reasons to care about almost anyone, save Neo.
2. Characters and new world are over-saturated. I get that matches with the current times, and the ending of the trilogy, but it felt like a barbie doll was created into an AI that had design ideas. I think that’s what they were going for there, which just seems to be bad decision-making from my end.
3. Score was over-the-top, and felt obtuse in their implementation.
4. Tremendous amounts of bad acting, and poor actor choices. Antagonists and supporting roles going from actors that feel like real-life drama actors to something that belongs in True Blood (if that’s still a thing).
5. Fight scenes were not up to par with choreography done in the previous trilogy, and the shots of the fight scenes were far under par for the Trilogy.
Overall, I find myself disappointed more than anything…
There was once was two worlds that had a weight and realism to them with mystery, and interpretations to the the story being told. Characters that had individual goals, and their own complex emotions. Drama, solid acting, and story telling we’re the foundation/rulebook of the Matrix.
Today it is just a perversion of its previous self. It portrays itself as a non-caring cash grab, or a first-attempt at a sequel put together by the first imaginative child they could find.
I’ll be skipping any future matrix movies unless I write and direct them somehow myself.
