I’ll keep my review short and to the point. Whilst nothing is going to compete with the original ‘Alien’ movie and its sequel ‘Aliens,’ Alien Romulus is a worthy part of the franchise and can hold its head high. Firstly the visuals and set design are stunning, as is the sci-fi world building. The horror and jump scares are also wonderfully done. Add to that some solid acting by the two main characters in particular, whom I genuinely cared about (can’t say that about the crew from the last couple of movies). Yes there are a few similarities in the plot and a couple of slightly cringey/nostalgic nods (*that* well known spoken line) but this is an excellent movie and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It feels like whatever new Alien movie gets made people will always find faults and chastise it against the original two movies, but Fede Alvez really did a good job here. Thought it was a great movie and well worth a watch! 4 stars out of 5

Couldn’t get into this movie. In between the action scenes its incredibly slow, got to the point where I kept skipping the constant ‘heart-to-heart’ scenes because I just didn’t care about the main characters or their back stories or their feelings. Never felt invested in the characters so didn’t care for their ‘emotional’ chats. Tries to be clever but ultimately fails. Apart from the dystopian setting, a couple of cool action scenes and some nice camera work, this movie is a miss. 2/5

No idea why this has got below 4 star rating. It’s a solid bank heist/backstab movie, with a stellar cast of actors. Certainly it takes inspiration from The Departed and Training Day, but that’s a good thing. Well worth a watch.

Brilliant season. The atmospheric setting in dark, icey Alaska, combined with the mysterious plot and all star acting make this one of the most gripping detective series in years. Spooky and chilling, literally. There’s lots of amazing cinematography and sound effects to keep you in the edge of your seat. Whilst Season 1 of True Detective will always be the holy grail, Season 4 comes VERY close to what makes SE1 so special. SE4 is a very close second. A perfect blend of whodunnit and the supernatural. Jody Foster & Kali Reis are exceptional in their roles. After the 6th/final episode there’s still a few unanswered questions.. but this just adds to the mysticism of the setting.

Brilliant thriller. Robin Williams gives an outstanding performance. This is 10x better than any recently produced thriller/horror movie. 10/10.

Brilliant film. An awesome spy/war thriller that has you on the edge of your seat for the majority. Deserves way higher review scores on IMDB & RT. Just goes to show don’t always listen to reviews, including my own ;-) Just do yourself a favour, go and watch this great movie. Leonardo Dicaprio, Russell Crowe and Mark Strong all play their characters exceptionally well.

Awesome film. Really liked the Viking mythology they bring into it throughout the movie, especially the last battle.

A not very good teen flick which is more like a B-Movie. Only explanation for the high reviews is that most of the reviewers are teenagers. Wasn’t terrible, watchable but that’s about it. Very cringey and not in a good way but had fun parts too. Even the ending of the movie is a rip off of the last scene of the movie Event Horizon.

After watching this I must admit I was a bit disappointed after all the raving reviews. It gets points for originality but I just didn’t find it particularly enthralling or on the edge of my seat. It’s quite a good film but that’s all. 3 out of 5 stars.
