Before entering the theater to watch the movie. I presumed that the movie was just going to be another cookie cutter movie featuring Godzilla. I was not expecting a human element of such powerful feelings of loss, grief and survivors guilt. Then pile on Godzilla to make matters worse. The level of perseverance was the only thing the Japanese people had left. They had to fight against a force of nuclear-powered malevolence that no one was quite prepared for on top of fighting their own psychological demons. Those are the same things that the American veterans have to combat every day. The movie is the best Godzilla movie I've seen. The reason being even with the subtitles, you can hear the pain and suffering in their voices. And, they had no help from outside countries because of the war. That complete solitude was also added to the hopelessness of a dire situation.
