This was like four movies clunkily squashed into one. SPOILERS We meet Jake (Crowe) as a teen, then we jump to him on some spiritual retreat, then he's organizing a "boys night" with some old mates -- who he also decides to poison lol -- oh and some art heist kicks off as well. Huh? Odd choice that Liam Hemsworth was cast here as Mike, an old buddy of Jake's, despite being nearly 30 years younger than Crowe. Hemsworth's sister-in-law appears as well which leads me to believe Crowe brought them aboard since he is probably friends with the family real life. Fine. Whatever, I guess. It's his movie. I think Crowe is a great actor but boy has he been in some projects that are ridiculously awful.

at the midway point I thought about not even finishing it... wish I really had turned it off once I saw that ending *smh* how ridiculous.

Who doesn't love a good survival flick? Well, all you find here with "Prey" is stock footage of animals likely lifted from a BBC documentary, some really cheesy dialogue and there's an underlying "faith" message I found offputting. Beast with Idris Elba is a much better option in this same genre.

This movie is very much like REC where tenants of a building are quarantined ... the difference is an infection spreading among the residents not spiders. REC genuinely built tension and the atmosphere was unsettling. This lameass rip off was chaotic with quite one-dimensional characters and nothing about it was legit scary nor innovative.

*SPOILERS* i usually enjoy Justin Long in almost everything ... he's just likeable even when playing a d-bag lol. This film could have been more interesting had it not been so heavy on repetitive dialogue (like continuously noting how untruthful Hap is). I knew from the beginning they were vampires but figured they would toy with him a bit more. Let him be chased through the house or through the woods. The ending was so flat.

Perhaps the most far-fetched part of this movie was that Ella had a boyfriend at all lol. She was so unlikeable and, besides literally being her mom's puppet, she seemingly had no real purpose in life. Just a drag of a person. I can acknowledge the film overall is nothing I've seen before but that doesn't equate to good. I enjoy psychological horror but this was overall a letdown and quite boring. Wouldn't recommend to anyone I know.

I just couldn't help comparing this one to the original film which I absolutely loved. What held this one back for me at only 3 stars was the inability to even like any of these characters. They are all so obnoxious and selfish. Daniel Craig saved this as I found everyone else unbearable - even Helen.

SPOiLERS *** I was on board with this movie for about the first 45 minutes -- well, the very beginning was boring but we need a backstory, right? Anyway, we soon went off the rails once all believability exited the chat. Appreciate that Kevin James and Joel McHale both wanted to venture into a different genre, but can any of us really see them as anything but comedic actors? And while on that subject, Wilson wasn't all that great of an actress especially when it came to emotional scenes. I didn't buy for a moment that she was even that distraught about her dad just being shot and killed right in front of her - oh, but they did include an exaggerated silent scream lol. Things get a bit repetitive (she really killed four grown men... really?) and we never even find out why the key was so important. I guess it didn't matter though when the entire "thrill" of the film was just to show an angsty 13yo girl crushing heads.

Tyler's uncomfortable feelings stem from the bond the white guys share because they are old friends and not because of his skin. race is brought up once by ONE ignorant guy ("black accent" scene) so the synopsis/trailer is misleading and laughable considering nothing ever happens to Tyler other than getting drunk and wandering in the dark.

i grew up watching this and it was a common joke around my house to say, "let's buzz" for no apparent reason other than to erupt in laughter afterwards haha. it's a fun movie for what it is and the nostalgia of 80s slasher flicks
