I’m very complexed by the negative views of this. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion as long as it’s the same negative opinion as theirs. I whole heartedly agree with the succinct positive reviews people have left. It was brilliant, - sure it abstained from the fuzzy niceties of previous adaptations but for gods sake, who cares? Every take on A Christmas Carol has been adapted in one way or another. This is clever, beautifully shot, brilliantly acted and appropriate both in style and language. If anything it’s probably more authentic than any other adaptation as 19th century London was a lot more wretched, poverty stricken, abusive and ugly than it is today. Well done BBC!

Sooo long, sooo boring. Much ado about nada

The first series was brilliant. Story lines, characters, interaction, content - all brilliant. The second series however, is sluggish, disappointing and self indulgent. It’s style over substance - all the men are portrayed as whimps, idiotic and weak. It panders to an American market with it’s lack of convincing reality. Very disappointing.

It would be simplistic to say that this adaptation has been a failure because of its inclusion of modern belief systems and demographics, but it is. It’s always commendable to create something new from a masterpiece, it’s a compliment to the brilliance of the original, but this version with its wooden acting, unnecessary swearing, unrealistic casting and contempt of history is an insult to the viewer and an insult to one of the best story tellers of all time.
