I remember when this album went on sale, and it was in December 1978, right at the starr of the christmas vacation for LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School Districts). KGFJ did a special preview of the album one week night, the week before. Blame It On The Boogie was already being played on the radio for weeks, but this was the first time the whole album was to be played on the air, all tracks back to back, both sides (vinyl folks)
I fell in love with the album right away. I was a junior in high school (11th grade) and a very strong Jackson fan. Thought Shake Your Body and Things I Do For You were super hot. I bought two copies during the two-week break, one to play regularly and one left in shrink wrap!
After the new year (1979), you couldn't go to a dance or party and not hear Shake Your Body.
Nine months later, in August 1979, Michael released Off The Wall, which even blew up further, going quadruple platinum, which was his solo album before Thriller (1982).
But Destiny was the catalyst album that launched the Jacksons into the upper stratosphere. Their first album where they had control over their product.
Brings back lots of very good and warm and fun memories!!!
