As someone who never saw the original, I came to this adaptation with no idea what it was about. The opening scene, while probably too violent for some, quickly roped me in with the key elements of stylish, multi-culti retro sets and aesthetics blended in sci-fi sensibilities, witty dialogue and great use of jazz music and special effects. You’ll see obvious reverence for Tarantino, Bond, Blade Runner, Twilight Zone, Star Wars etc but you’ll also find yourself wishing you could snoop around the the Anais club or the Bebop ship, hear the full song the jazz band in the background is playing and study all the languages seen on signs in the sets, wear the 70s inspired costumes and jewelry and map out the inter dimensional space travels.
Highly addictive, visually stimulating and sonically stunning - I’m half way through the series and already know I’ll want more when season 1 is over!
