For the special effects and the rogue wave being very realistic I adored the Poseidon movie that came out in 2006. I was never bored in that movie. But for the compassion of the characters I really admired the Poseidon Adventure movie that came out in 1972.
In the 2006 movie, the person who found a better exit had this, it's every man for himself, mentality instead of wanting to show everybody else this exit. While that person in the 1972 movie wanted to show everybody that better exit off of the sinking ship.
People cared about everybody, including the waiter and when he fell into that bubbling body of water they tried to rescue him in the earlier Poseidon movie. Yet, in the 2006 one, that poor waiter "Valentin" was sacrificed in the most horrible way. He didn't deserve to die. I was also appalled and frightened when Dylan TOLD Nelson to kick Valentin off, because he gave up on saving him. Besides the mother and the child could have helped pull them both up, therefore both Nelson and Valentin would have lived. Lastly, NOBODY seemed to give a hoot when Valentin was killed although he had a very caring soul, but they were ALL mourning when Elena, who was like "get me outta here!" when Nelson's foot got stuck in the vent and when Dylan almost drowned in the vent because of her, drowned.
There was more humanity and compassion in the earlier Poseidon movie...In that movie people helped each other, while in the 2006 one, it was pretty much every man for himself.
