(Spoiler warning) I had high hopes for the movie but was kind of let down. It wasn’t all bad but most of it was. It seemed like a lot of it was just fan service. The animatronics looked like costumes and the death scenes were incredibly cheesy. It was like watching a bad horror movie before CGI was made. There was really no suspense in the movie at all it was all fairly predictable but I didn’t even really see an effort made to add to the suspense. The biggest let down is that the movie does not follow the story line which raises more questions like is this canon? Does this relate to the games story at all? It just didn’t make much sense and seemed rather rushed. At one point the animatronics were friendly toward Mike (the main protagonist) which killed any horror element of the movie. Finally, there’s spring trap. Not only did spring trap look terrible, the spring lock scene was just kind of lame and didn’t really drive any emotion. I hate to poorly rate this movie as Scott Cawthon has made something incredible with this series from going to a simple indie game to a multi million dollar franchise but movie adaptations of video games are almost always bad from my experience and I wish that they took more time with it and made something that stuck to the original story. They left it open for a second movie so if one gets made I hope their budget is higher and maybe go more toward the direction of the actual story. I rate this 2 stars instead of 1 because they did a MattPatt cameo that was actually very clever and I actually found myself laughing from it so I’ll give the movie that.
