I read this book at the recommendation of a friend. I did not read any of the reviews before reading it. I have since read the reviews and the one thing I find that is missing in these reviews is that although this is a comprehensive (and flawed) analysis, I don’t see how there’s any real evidence to blame the Democratic Party the way Candace Owens is doing so. That is her mission with this book.
The policies put forth by the Democratic Party impacted more than just black Americans. And yes there were racist leaders of the country in the 60s. But what they did to improve civil rights and voting rights benefited black Americans regardless.
The actions of many parties that were racist or anti-black in general were the inevitable result of the history of racism in this country. It crossed party lines.
I also found that many times the statistics that were put into the book were from incongruent time periods or studies. I don’t think this was a well researched book. No citing or footnotes is telling as to the weakness of her premise that it is the Democratic Party to blame. It was a lot of personal opinion backed by some easily found numbers.
I find it concerning that she holds the people of her own race with such little regard. It is the same philosophy that led to the January 6 insurrection and the false narrative of voter fraud in the 2020 election.
