Just saw this, honestly I get why the concept was a big deal back in 96, and I also get why this movie got rated what it is right now, but honestly except for an overall summary and the graphics this movie is a bit poor. Like the start of the movie was better when they show the UFOs taking place and the world panicking the solutions everyone was trying to come up with. As soon as the timer hit zero, the movie progressed from being satisfactory to worse.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!
In this film the part that really made me question if the writer was in the right mind when they wrote the script. First Captain Steven(Will Smith)'s apparent wife/gf hides in the maintenance room in the tunnel and miraculously survives without any burns while the door was open??? I mean that's not how an explosion works. Second normal citizens are allowed in military bases??? nonetheless how did the whole pack of RV's get within a mile radius of the Area 51 base without anyone noticing them, and even if they did how was the whole pack let through? Not the last critic but the biggest one HOW AND WHY IS THE PRESIDENT FLYING AN F18??? THEY HAVE PLENTY OTHER PILOTS AND YET THE PRESIDENT WITHOUT A COURSE GETS IN THE JET AND READY TO FIGHT? I mean there were other pilots in the air with much more experience than the president yet he lived without a scratch? Honestly if this movie was filmed today, you would be seeing 5 star reviews like "OMG I WENT TO SEE IT WITH MY BESTIE AND WE HAD SO MUCH FUN" or "THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME LOOKS SO MUCH LIKE STAR WARS/STAR TREK".
