Queen was an electrifying sound event in my teenage years, like earlier the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin. It was just an epoch of extraordinary music and art, film, everything. This film captures that, is witty and funny where appropriate and brought the sense of excitement right back to me.
The casting and acting and production is faultless and drew me into the story. Even on my second viewing I teared up at the tragedy of the love story between Freddy and Mary doomed by his homosexuality. The loneliness of living out your sexuality at the border of legality anf the craziness of a rock star's lifestyle. .. The best part of the story - the story of Freddy Mercury's life really - is that there was a rebirth of love, one that was possible, even if cruelly short lived. The meta-message behind it all is that it doesnt matter ultimatly how long or short your life is, as long as you gave it your all, made a contribution to humanity, lived your life with courage and are generous with sharing your gifts.... and have an awesome soundtrack to carry you along for the ride.
