If we remove the fact that it's a book adaptation and just focus on the plot and story, there just felt like a total lack of suspense created in the script and the music. I felt myself struggling to watch without getting distracted, the plot didn't seem to make sense. Having read the book there are a lot of opportunities missed which is a shame. The reason it's good to pick up for TV is the drama which felt really flat. Acting wise it was a fantastic cast that was well matched to the characters, thought it just felt overall grey and lacking. It is meant to be a detective story but half of it was missing, the recordings the characters feeling of dread and Miss-steps that can catch them out. Even a reenactment of what happened to Sal. ... All just poor from a viewing perspective.
