I’m Irish, and I have to say I really cannot understand why this book is getting such good reviews. Maybe it’s a generational thing- I’m fifty now. But I really thought this was awful. It wanders around so much I ended up skipping rather long and boring sections. The writer is certainly accomplished, but the whole conception and structure is very flawed. The ending is an attempt to bring some pace, which the main narrative lacks. But the ending is truly a mess- difficult to read or follow, and completely unresolved so we are left hanging in mid air. So, in short, loved by some, but not for me!
