Johanna De Ruyter (Moving communication)

I found this film very uncomfortable and beautiful at the same time. The violence was too graphic for me and I had to fast forward and I am not squeamish but rape scenes are confronting. In fact I would be fascinated to know how the actors debrief from these scenes. The themes of colonial power, violence, racism, sexism, nature are shocking, moving and current. A stark reminder that our country was born of these themes which are yet not resolved let alone acknowledged.

I love this show. It's so full of humanity from the small and insignificant moments to the mighty conundrums. Marvellous writing and acting.

This film was a rollercoaster ride of shock, intrigue, hilarity betrayal, revenge, frustration to name a few emotions. As a feminist I appreciated the exploration of articulating the grey zone politics of 'the nice guy'. Great performance by Carey Mulligan, interesting sound track and for a first feature enjoyable and provocative.

Excellent production and performances and powerful storylines reflecting current social and political themes.
