Every Rebus novel is 5*. I maker this judgement when comparing Rankin / Rebus with Mankell / Wallender and the other Scandinavian novelists. The plot of this novel is so taught that l had to read it in two instalments. The biggest negative though was with the characterisation of Malcolm Fox who l got to like in other Rankin novels but grew to detest as this plot unfurled. I don’t think that there is any need for another novel as this is a perfect ending to a complex and enigmatic literary creation.
