This version is very much like the 1987 version but 1000x better. It is beautiful in every single way. My only complaint, which is one that I have with every adaptation of beauty and the beast that I've seen (Outside of the Disney adaption) is that it does not show enough of them falling in love. It just kind of seems to come from nowhere (again this is a common complaint I have with MANY adaptations). She doesn't know who he is, she dislikes him, NO BUILD UP then BOOM she loves him? This is a common trope in so many version I've come to expect it, I guess maybe people don't want to be accused of copying Disney but in this case they def should. If only it had brought a small bit of that Disney magic to their relationship, showing both of them softening their pride. For Beast to stop lashing out and start letting her in and Belle to see him for who he really is so (unfortunately) unique to the Disney version that it really leaves others wanting in that department, which can make it hard as a viewer.
IF you can put aside that 1 lacking element, this movie is amazing and BETTER than the Disney remake. CGI, Cinematography, acting, writing, all of it is just phenomenal. Outside of the Animated Disney version this is by far the best I've seen to date.
It would of done well to make it either longer or as a 3 part mini series, to be able to expand on character development, both for Beast and Belle as well as her family and the situation they seem to find themselves in towards the end of the film (a stark contrast from the '87 version). But even without the extra exposition you pick up very clearly what has happened with her family, it may just be nice to see a little more of it play out to see the darkness kind of take hold there.
(and there are no songs for those of you who want to avoid musicals)
