Thappad is the slow but hard slap on the patriarchy. It involves the story of not just one but many women from various socio-economic status. Every other person in the movie including lawyer suggests it's NOT right to take divorce due to single slap and our social conditioning is so strong that it made me think even at the end of the movie, Is it worth to leave safe and secure life due to single slap ? Each one has its own. So as Amurta the protagonist says it's all about respect and love. No, not for her but she doesn't wish to be in the marriage where she feel she doesn't love him anymore and there is no respect for him. This is Tapasee's by far the best performance. Interval break made me realize that she is an actress and not actual Amruta. Male audience will not like this movie as they may not understand the pain of that single Thappad. One small scene when man sees a single widow working mother driving new Mercedes, his first reaction is "Ye karti kya hain?" will he ever question the same for single father? And trust me even women may doubt the other such successful women. So deep rooted are our social norms. Movie exactly shows such small but significant dialogues which we audience needs to capture and understand. Beauty of this movie is no ONE person is wrong here. Each and every character is so well depicted and so nicely portrayed by powerful ensemble cast. At the end I will just say if there is no respect and love then what's the point in dragging ? But every women can't be strong headed Amruta who is supported by her wonderful parents , in-laws and at the end her husband. It's must watch with thoughtful mind. Each and every scene, expressions and technically superior in terms of lighting, DOP, background score like the that THAPPAD ki Goonj which you take along when you leave cinema hall.
