As somebody who listened to the Audiobook and know quite alot of Sandman Lore. I will state that Neil Gailman really knocked it out the park with this adaptation. Its different yes, but it's suspected to please our current demographic. There are flaws yes, and it I think there are a few elements that did make it a bit much for my liking, (I mean duh, Sandman is a very dark franchise) but it makes it up for all the good it has. I really hope this gets a second season but knowing Netflix...it might get canceled on it's third season.
