I think this latest scandal with Whoopi is a great opportunity for a larger discussion about racism. I really don't believe that people actually believe Whoopi is racist against Jews, or Sharon Osbourne is racist against blacks.
What is so bad about racism? Why do blacks get so emotional about racism against them. Why are Jews so emotional about antisemitism?
Because racism is vile, anti human and just wrong. That is why it is so offensive to be labeled a racist. The term racism or any other word that describes these attitudes, should be reserved for Only the people who have these attitudes. If Whoopi feels she was wrongly judged as antisemitic, she might better understand what others feel when they are wrongly labeled racist. In America, blacks throw the word, racism, around without realizing it is very very offensive.
This causes communication to breakdown because of the connotation that word has! I hope Whoopi returns with some self reflection and can lead a discussion about how it feels to be wrongly judged.
