I ‘m all in for Stegner’s writing. His observant descriptions are like actually being present in the plot, or the forest, or wherever he is in the story.
The way he shapes his characters always hits a button somewhere inside me. It’s just like being present among them. There’s a lot of depth
in the situations if you pause and think them over. But it sometimes Is like watching flowers grow. Slow, but unfolding beauty. And he sees a lot more around him than most of us ever could recognize.
