Beautiful, rich, black and white noir photography, understated character development salted lightly with black humour and stunningly eloquent cinematography deliver a subtle, slow burn of a story in the most delicious of settings. Running historical parallels connect a main character with the tragic life of italian painter, Carravagio, liberally filling scene after scene with his chiaroscuro shadowed paintings and the architecture, music and art of his time and place. Incredible attention to detail leads this viewer to believe that there are many carefully crafted connections. I can't say enough about this film. Check it out!
